"Santa Rosa Sunshine"

Hall's Hardware on Highway 90 in Milton - exclusive retailer for Santa Rosa Sunshine! 

Hall's Hardware will be selling Santa Rosa Sunshine glass by the five gallon bucket for $15 and the bulk loads ($40 for the pebbles and $30 for the sand).  This is a great outlet for Santa Rosa Clean and a great establishmen to visit!

We wll still sell Santa Rosa Sunshine glass through the Green-Up nursery, however, we encourage folks to visit Hall's.

The recycled glass may be used in many applications, including landscaping, walkways, erosion control, driveways, parking lots, art projects and much more. A newly purchased tractor bucket allows most regular trucks and trailers to haul the material that weighs between 800 and 1,000 pounds and measures half a yard. The material may be ordered and paid for at the Clean Community System's Green-Up nursery and loading will be on Fridays at the Recycling Center. The cost of each scoop is $40 for the pebble size material and $30 for the sand size material.

Funds raised through the sale of "Santa Rosa Sunshine" will go toward the maintenance costs of the Andela Glass Pulverizer, which is estimated at $15,000 per year. The purchase of the machine and initial start-up costs were funded by an Impact 100 grant.

   In addition to bulk purchases the glass is available in several different packaged sizes. Mixed glass pebbles comes in a seven gallon container (approximately 50 pounds) for $15 and a three gallon container (approximately 25 pounds) for $10. Mixed glass sand can be purchased in the same sizes, with the seven gallon container priced at $7.50 and the three gallon container at $5. Separated colors of glass are packaged in gallon containers (approximately 7 pounds) with various prices. In addition, bulk mixed glass pebbles and sand are available as the supply lasts, the pebbles will be $60 per yard and the sand $40 per yard. Santa Rosa Clean Community Awarded 2009 Impact 100 Grant

Pensacola Bay Area Impact 100

On Sunday, October 18, 2009, the Santa Rosa Clean Community System was named the winner in the Environment category for the Impact 100 grant. The grant award is for $102,800 and was used to set up a completely new and innovative glass recycling program called Santa Rosa Sunshine.

For the past several years, all glass collected by Recycle Santa Rosa has been landfilled because of the lack of recycling facilities for glass. Shipping to the closest facility was cost prohibitive, and the result was that about 200,000 pounds of glass each month were being collected and landfilled. The grant allowed for the purchase of a glass processing machine that crushes and tumbles the glass. The final product is free of sharp edges, can be processed in a variety of sizes and can be used as a replacement for sand, rock and other materials. The product is so safe that children can play on it and people can walk on it. One application is for use as landscape mulch. The mulch is shiny and beautiful and serves the same purpose as other mulches: it holds moisture in the ground around the plant and keeps the root system cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The product can also be used for floral design, aquariums, art projects and much more.  Come to Green-Up Santa Rosa and see the wonderful product for yourself!
