You Can Support the "Recycling Innovation Station"
The site of the old Milton Firehouse in Milton, Florida will soon be transformed into a "recycling innovation station" and businesses, corporations and individuals are now being asked to help "Climb the Ladder" to the top with donations which will be used to purchase recycled plastic picnic tables, park benches and garbage receptacles for the new Fireman's Recycling Station. The Santa Rosa Clean Community System, Inc. has begun soliciting donations.
The community's support is needed to help make this happen. One end of the property will house recycling containers and at the other end the area will include recycled plastic tables, benches and garbage cans for use by the general public. Kiosks will provide information about recycling. Plans also include a garden area made from recycled glass.
The location of the new recycling center is adjacent to the busy intersection of Stewart Street and Berryhill Road. This can only strengthen the public's awareness of recycling and thus, enhance the strength of the recycling program in Santa Rosa County. This entire recycling station project is a partnership with the City of Milton and Santa Rosa County.
Sponsorships are available at the Platinum Ladder Level - $1000 or more; Gold Ladder Level - $500-$999; Silver Ladder Level - $250-$499; or Bronze Ladder Level - $50-$249. All donations are tax-deductible.
If you would like more information or if you have additional questions regarding this project, please feel free to contact John Tonkin, Executive Director, Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 850-623-1930 or email him.

Electronics Recycling in Santa Rosa County
On Saturday, January 21, 2012, the Santa Rosa Clean Community System will host Electronics Recycling at Navarre Park on Highway 98 in Navarre. The event will be from 9 am through 2 PM. All electronic items will be accepted, with a $10 charge for televisions and $3 charge for computer monitors. The charge is because of the toxic materials in those two items. E-Covery will collect and dispose of the items, recycling nearly everything and disposing of anything toxic in the proper way.
For more information, please contact the Santa Rosa Clean Community System at 623-1930.

Clean Community Celebrates Fireman's Recycling Station
On Saturday, December 10, 2011, the Clean Community System celebrated the kick-off of the new Fireman's Recycling Station by having "Ring those Bells" at the Green-Up Nursery in Milton. Milton's Fire Department had trucks and Firemen on hand for the kids, and we had workshops on making ornaments out of recycled glass. Cookies and Drinks from the new Firehouse Subs in Milton were available at the workshops.

South Santa Rosa County Waste Removal
As of July, 2011, south Santa Rosa County residents have one waste removal service travelling their neighborhoods.
The franchises were bid out this past year with Waste Pro and Waste Management splitting up the service. Checkout the map on the county website to see the service areas. This contract was negotiated by the county and the waste haulers earlier in the year the contract is for 3 years
The process to consolidate residential waste haulers in the south end of Santa Rosa County began almost four years ago with a three year advance notice of intent to franchise areas sent to waste haulers and the public. Based on discussions with citizens, a review of the level of services currently available, and services provided in other Florida counties, the Santa Rosa Board of County Commissioners released a Request for Proposal for Solid Waste Services in late 2010.
The new contract has many benefits to South County residents:
- More services for a reduced cost to our residents - economy of scale
- Added convenience as residents will no longer have to haul bulky items, yard waste and recycling
- Helps alleviate traffic from multiple haulers in subdivisions
- Prevents excess wear and tear on roads
- One service provider to be held accountable for damage or clean up
- Helps the county meet state recycling targets
- Less litter/illegal dumping
For more information, contact the Santa Rosa County Environmental Department at (850) 981-7135 or go to solid waste information on the county website.
